The most local election you get to vote in, and the one most people know least about. Here is how a ward vote turns into a councillor, a mayor, and eventually a street that gets swept.
Where things stand
Both corporations were elected in 2020 on five-year terms, with elections due in 2025. Separately, the state government decided in 2025 to merge Greater and Heritage into one corporation and redraw the zones. A merger changes ward boundaries, so the two things are tangled together. Nothing on this page should be treated as the notified election date: the Rajasthan State Election Commission is the only source that actually settles that.
One thing is settled: the ward redraw itself is done. The final delimitation was notified in the Rajasthan Gazette Extraordinary on 20 September 2025, and the corporation publishes the notification in full. It runs to 67 pages and describes every ward boundary in prose, landmark by landmark, in Hindi. If you need to know exactly where your ward now begins and ends, that document is the authority.
The smallest unit of city government, and one of them is yours. The two corporations went into the redraw with 250 wards between them; the final delimitation notified in September 2025 has since changed that map. This is exactly why the ward number you remember may not be the one you have now.
Each ward elects one councillor directly, on a single day, on the state election commission's roll rather than a separate municipal one. If you are on the voter list for your address, you can vote in it.
The winner becomes your ward councillor. This is the person whose actual job includes your street: sanitation, lighting, local roads, and pushing the corporation's machinery on your behalf.
The mayor is not elected separately by the public in the way a member of parliament is. The elected councillors form the body from which the mayor is chosen, which is why control of a corporation can turn on a handful of ward results.
Most frustration with ward councillors comes from asking them for things that were never theirs to give.

Ward counts are the figures for the two corporations as constituted before the redraw. The final delimitation was notified on 20 September 2025, so the ward map these numbers describe has since been redrawn: treat them as the outgoing position. We have not published the new per-ward boundaries because they exist only as prose descriptions in the gazette, not as mappable data.
Last checked 31 Aug 2026. Election dates, ward boundaries and office-holders all change, and the announced merger will change several of them at once: the State Election Commission is the authority on anything time-sensitive here. Where all of our data comes from is set out in our terms.
